The world is currently in a massive job crisis, so that begs the question; is co-op really worth it?
Wholly AMusED reached out to James Madio, a co-op student who happened to be placed with Wholly AMusED, to help answer this question.
Wholly AMusED: What type of co-op are you doing?
I am doing my Co-op as a program director/coordinator. This means I am helping make Wholly AMusED events happen in any way I can! whether that is sending an email, posting on Facebook or creating an event planning board. My goal is to make these events as great and meaningful as possible for everyone involved.
Wholly AMusED: How did you end up with Wholly AMusED?
Like many of us at Wholly AMusED, I was introduced to wholly AMusED from Royal city studios, Jim’s past organization. After Royal city studios closed, many of us had the question “what’s next?” luckily Jim was quick to answer that question with Wholly AMusED, an organization starting right where Royal city studios left off. After I had seen that Jim was back up and running again with Wholly AMusED, I was quick to get in contact and get involved, which later turned into a summer co-op program that I am currently working on.
Wholly AMusED: Are there any specific challenges you’ve come across?
The main challenge I have faced is not having enough music programs near me. This problem is especially prevalent for people who live in smaller towns like myself. It can be very difficult to find programs for musicians, let alone finding a facility to play music and network with other musicians. Wholly AMusED has been able to combat that by providing truly all inclusive music programs for everyone.
Wholly AMusED: How has Wholly AMusED helped you?
Before attending the Wholly AMusED all inclusive jams, I had barely ever been on stage playing music. After building up the courage to go up and play at the wholly amused jam, I went from a shy musician playing guitar, to a confident solo acoustic singer/songwriter playing gigs and taking the stage at plenty of open mics on a weekly basis. Wholly AMusED is what gave me the confidence to land my first gig.
Wholly AMusED: How are you connected with music?
Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember, it was always something that made me feel right at home and has always been my reason for living. Every aspect of my life revolves around music in some sort of way, it truly is the driving force that makes me feel like my true self, music is a way for me to express myself and to connect with other people. It is more than a hobby for me, it is my lifestyle. I love every aspect of music and I know it is a part of me that is gonna stay with me forever. Music showed me who I truly am as a person and how I want to live my life.
